Terms of Service

Use the tools, don't rely on them for life decisions. That is the gist.

Acceptance

By using PayoffCalcs, you accept these terms. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, do not use the site. Your continued use of the site after any changes to these terms constitutes acceptance of the new terms. These terms are effective as of the "Last updated" date shown at the bottom of this page.

Informational use only

PayoffCalcs provides general financial planning information and self-service calculation tools for informational purposes only. Nothing on this site constitutes financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. You use these tools at your own risk and should consult a qualified professional before acting on any information provided here.

The calculators are designed to help you understand the math behind common financial decisions. They are not a substitute for personalized advice from a licensed financial advisor, CPA, or attorney who can review your complete financial picture.

Not financial advice

All calculators here are for planning and education. They will not replace a real financial advisor, accountant, or lawyer. If you are making a big money decision, talk to a human first. The formulas are standard, but the right decision for your specific situation depends on factors the calculators do not and cannot know.

I am not a licensed financial professional. I am a developer who built these tools. Nothing on this site should be interpreted as a recommendation to take or avoid any specific financial action.

Accuracy

The math is solid, but results are estimates. Rounding, timing, fees, and rate changes can all shift the real outcome. I do not guarantee the numbers will match your bank statement exactly. Every calculator is documented on the Methodology page with its formula and assumptions so you can verify the logic yourself.

Rate benchmarks and tax data are sourced from government agencies (Federal Reserve, CFPB, IRS) and updated quarterly. Between updates, actual rates and brackets may differ. Always verify current rates with your lender or tax professional before making decisions.

Your inputs

The calculators run in your browser. I do not see your data. That said, you are responsible for entering the right numbers — garbage in, garbage out. If you enter an incorrect rate, balance, or term, the results will be wrong. Double-check your inputs before relying on any result.

Do not enter sensitive personal information (Social Security numbers, account numbers, passwords) into any calculator. The calculators do not need and should never receive this type of data. If you accidentally enter sensitive information, refresh the page — nothing is stored or transmitted.

Ownership

The code, design, and content are mine. Do not copy the site wholesale, do not redistribute it, and do not build a competitor off it without asking. Individual calculations and results are yours to use freely — screenshot them, share them, print them, use them in conversations with your lender or advisor.

The financial formulas themselves are public domain (standard math). The specific implementation, design, text, and data compilations on this site are original work.

Ads and third-party stuff

I use Google AdSense to keep the lights on. The site may link out to other websites. I am not responsible for what is on those sites — their privacy practices, their content, their anything. When you click an external link, you are leaving PayoffCalcs and subject to that site's terms.

Google AdSense may use cookies to serve personalized ads. For information about how this works and how to opt out, see the Privacy Policy.

Limitation of liability

If you use the site and something goes wrong — bad math, missed payment, lost money — that is on you. I am not liable for direct, indirect, or any other kind of damage from using or not being able to use these tools. This includes but is not limited to: financial losses, missed opportunities, tax penalties, or decisions made based on calculator results.

The site is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, including but not limited to warranties of accuracy, completeness, reliability, availability, or fitness for any particular purpose. I do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free. I do not warrant that the calculators will be error-free, that results will match your actual financial outcomes, or that the site will always be available.

Editorial content

Any blog posts, articles, or informational content on this site are for educational purposes only and should not be considered financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Always consult a qualified professional before making financial decisions.

I strive for accuracy in all content, but I do not guarantee it. Information can become outdated, and errors can occur. If you spot one, report it and I will fix it promptly.

Changes

I might update these terms. If I do, I will change the date at the bottom. Keep using the site after that = you are okay with the new terms. If the changes are significant (new data practices, new liability limitations), I will add a note highlighting what changed.
